New Artist: Hazel Nicholls

hazel-complete-large-hires

Hazel Nicholls is one of our latest additions to the Soma artist lineup. She joined us at Pick Me Up where her screenprints proved very popular. The fluro pink Russian Doll print below was probably the most photographed piece on our stand!

Hazel Nicholls is 31 and lives in South East London. Thirteen years ago she moved from Northern Ireland to attend Camberwell College of Arts. She left Camberwell with a degree in Illustration. Hazel loves Real Ale, the seaside, ten pin bowling and of course a good pun. Her work is mostly influenced by a longstanding love of cross stitch and an interest in old phrases. Her designs have found themselves on limited edition prints, ceramics, textiles, packaging and more recently a giant fibre glass egg (as part of the Faberge Big Egg Hunt, 2012). She learnt how to screenprint four years ago and she hasn’t looked back since.

Rob Ryan Valentines Print 2013

Rob Ryan Valentines 2013 print

Rob Ryan has created a beautiful silkscreen print for Valentines, as he does every year. This years print titled 'There is Only Time' depicts a man and woman on a hill with a clock.

The text reads:

"There is no such thing as free time.
There is no such thing as work time.
There is no such thing as play time.
There is no such thing as spare time.
There is no such thing as the right time.
There is no such thing as down time.
There is no such thing as quality time.
There is no such thing as the wrong time.

"There is only time.

"The rarest and most precious gift I can give you seems to be the one thing I never have enough of to spare, but I promise to give you as much as I have and will make even more + more to give you. Can these seconds and minutes slowly grow into hours and days and perhaps weeks, months and years? In the name of St. Valentine can you be mine? 14th February 2013."

This beautiful print is signed and numbered in an edition of 100, paper size 68.5cm high x 51cm wide with print size 47cm high x 33.5 cm wide and priced at £150 unframed.

We are able to frame this print for customers coming into our gallery. Unfortunately we are unable to post this print framed as it is too large.

Crispin Finn's 2013 Year Planner

Crispin Finn's 2013 Year Planner

The incredibly popular Crispin Finn handmade Year Planner is into its 5th year!

As ever they have tried to improve on last years and have made a few practical adjustments.
The size of the grid has been adjusted and separated out from each month to allow for additional annotation that spans across many dates. They have also alternated the colour of months to allow for easy tracking. Weekends are clearly defined and easily spotted as a block with a thick border. Public holidays are highlighted with a small sun icon, and as always they've kept the design practical, functional but also aesthetically pleasing and in their trademark red, white and blue.

Embossed 2 colour screenprint on 120gsm 100% recycled, biodegradable white paper, measuring 997 x 700mm. Open edition.

Each planner comes hand folded and sealed in a screenprinted brown kraft bag.

Working predominantly in red, white and blue, a restriction they initially set themselves in order to hand produce simple and affordable designs, the colour scheme has become part of the Crispin Finn identity.

As well as commisioned projects and freelance work, they also produce limited runs of ephemera.
